There are a lot of old spiritual hymns whose poetic lyrics speak of a train "bound for glory" when the Son of God returns to claim His own...

...when I saw this train on Mount Washington (in New Hampshire) with the tops of clouds rolling in behind it, I was instantly reminded of those old hymns.

In literal terms, this is the "cog" railway (constructed in 1866); small engines that were built specifically to push a single railway car up Mount Washington for the tourists to gaze out over southern New Hampshire, Maine and the atlantic Ocean in the distance. Since it was about 28 degrees when I took this pic, the moisture from the mists of the clouds had frozen to just about any solid surface the air moved across (in this case, thousands of small trees and bushes).

Believe it or not, this IS a color photograph...

Oh, you went to Mt. Washington too?

And yes, I believe it's a color photo. The atmosphere up there makes everything smoggy. Has some great views though (on a clear day). 28 degrees, brrrrr!

Isn't it funny that the one building is actually chained to the ground? I'll have to post my pics from when I went there on vacation this past summer.

Ya know G, the day one of your works ceases to impress will definitely be the day the world ends so I'm feel'n pretty good about my odds of there being another tomorrow! =D

Nice pic.

If you ever want to do something truly insane you can register for the Mt Washington Road Race ... and run up to the top. (I kid you not ...)

Thought I'd add that my particular song is the opposite of riding a train for glory. Don't wanna confuse anyone.
